I wrote two letters at uni: one to my mum, one to my younger self. They were embroidered onto found garments reflective of those who they were written for. I had the flu this week, so rather than being able to reflect and make something new, I have re-read those letters and maybe in the weeks to come, I'll write new ones. Taken by Gianluca in 2019.
A visual diary of holding moments throughout the month of July. 01 The feet of my squishy nephew on my lap, in the shaded garden, whilst his parents weed & prune. His little bum is resting against my belly, his little chubby toes against my open hand. 02 The same squishy baby being held by my mother on her 66th birthday. The contrast between her ageing skin and his active, explorative curiosity. 03 A couple who have been in love for 14 years, holding each other whilst formalising the union in the presence of their close family. 04 A new couple waking up to each other and discovering their new touch.
I spent an afternoon in my mum's garden working with wire, balance, light and found objects. I learnt how to make mobiles with tools like pliers & wire cutters, which are so foreign to my usual practice. Recently, at a festival, I had the opportunity to explore playing with wire, and it has awakened a new curiosity within me and it was a pleasure to photograph on a sunny day.
