It's been a busy month, and walking in the sun has been really filling me with all the right things. To be honest, I've not been submitting for a while because I've prioritised other things, been too busy, or whatever other excuse. The reality is, I really love making art for art's sake, and sharing the journey without too much perfection. So here are some unedited documentations of the spring walking energy in my camera roll: A body scan I painted with plant pigments to document feeling full of energy, shoes which I did not panic buy for an event because most times you already have enough things, and shoe polish is a much cheaper alternative!, and the beautiful blue sky, taken just as a cat walked out of shot.
This is a Christmas card design I made which feels aligned to this theme. For me, togetherness is what the winter holidays are about, more than anything else.
I took some time this month to be playful with existing and new linocut prints whilst I developed a new design for a shop. I combined elements in a way I don’t usually, creating new forms from smaller blocks rather than one continuous design. It was natural to repeat designs, creating lines of bold floral forms.
This piece is about connecting through difference. Recognising our different natures in relationships can be very helpful and challenging in equal parts. Sometimes we don't have the words or don't understand one another, but still we try, and still we care and love and connect.
I've been transitioning in a big way in my practice, and this is my largest piece to date using some of my handmade mineral pigment oil paints. It is imperfect but I'm happy to leave it there The background is made with some oil pastels I didn't make, but an important part of the transition to using totally natural materials. It feels like an awakening in many senses, for my practice, for the deepened connection with the earth, and the abundance we see depicted in the painting itself.
